2006 AGM

Canbury and Riverside AGM

2. Constitution



The chairman presented a revised constitution. This were approved by Pat Mackay and seconded by Bazil Arden.

3. Treasurers Report (CR)


A statement of the year end accounts was presented by the treasurer. These were approved by Pat Mackay and seconded by Bazil Arden.

4. Election of committee


Committee members -Hugh Scantlebury, Bodo von Broen, Pat Mackay, Lucy Watson, Penny D'Souza, Claire Francis, Bazil Arden, Charlie Rudd, Trevor Willis, Helen Moss

It was noted that Cheung Lo no longer wished to serve on the committee. The chairman expressed appreciation for his effort and support over past twelve months.

These were approved by Dr Mario Cedro and seconded accordingly.

5. Potential areas for CARA funding


The chairman explained the nature of the scheme in terms of timing, criteria and value. Letters will now be issued to local groups, clubs and other interested parties welcoming applications. It was noted that following a grant award the committee would review the success of the initiative to ensure it had been spent appropriately. Each grant will be awarded based on overall committee approval.

6. Nursey - Lower Ham Road


The recent planning application has been turned down. However, CARA has received a letter advising explaining the nursery have warned local residents of impending works due to be completed at night time and weekends. Concern at the noise was expressed. CARA advised resident to contact Environmental health is deemed inappropriate.

7. Letters


A. Resident Christine Leech of Lower Ham Road wrote to oppose the car parking proposal. The committee felt that adequate communication had been made to residents from both CARA and the Council, Councillor Doe explained the implementation of the new restrictions was subject to delay to the New Year. The proposal has to be reviewed by various groups including Police and fire authorities.
B. The Chairman warned members of postal scam in the area. Some residents have received notification of an undelivered parcel asking them to call a premium rate number to arrange collection. Advice – Upon receipt of such a note contact Royal Mail.

C. As the festive season approaches members were advised to be aware of security risk of parcels being delivered and left on doorsteps until residents return.


8. Rats


Concern at the increase number of rats in the area. The Chairman advised members to contact Environmental health direct if they have concern.

9. Council waste collection Pilot scheme


Councillor Doe updated the committee on this proposal. The ‘Berrylands’ pilot scheme has been halted as the Council’s scrutiny panel has referred the matter to the full council for approval.

10. Lighting Canbury Gardens


Trevor raised issue of urgent need for replacement light bulbs for Canbury Gardens. He will raise matter with Council.

11. Power Station 2 Hotel & Residential Development Site


Pat McKay attended the recent public meeting on this proposal and explained the majority of attendees were not in favour of the plan stating the following concerns: light pollution, traffic congestion, poor infrastructure to support development, sheer size of project, limited affordable housing units. Next Council meeting 12th December. Councillor Doe to advise CARA who to contact to register concerns with the GLA. Members advised to refer to CARA website for Kingston Council contacts should they wish to register concerns.

12. Bulb Planting


PM to arrange suitable date.

13. Fence Painting


Delayed until springtime.

14. Lower Ham Road hedge


Councillor Doe to contact council to request it is cut down to a more suitable height.

15. Thames clean up


BVB to organise annual CARA clean up in conjunction with Thames Landscape Group. Date - February 2007

16. Carol singing evening


Date – Saturday 9th December, venue – Pavillion to include mince pies, mulled wine. BA to issue details / commandeer assistance as required.
